This dive site features the SS Copenhagen, a historic 325-foot steamer that sank in 1900, now resting in shallow waters off Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. As a true wreck over 100 years old, it offers an easily navigable structure for divers of all levels, making it a popular and accessible site to explore the past.
The wreck has transformed into a vibrant artificial reef, attracting diverse marine life. Divers can expect to encounter large schools of bait fish, several nurse sharks, various species of turtles, and an abundance of colorful reef fish inhabiting the structure and surrounding areas.
Being a shallow site with a maximum depth of 10 meters and an average of 5 meters, it is ideal for both scuba diving and snorkeling. The best time to visit is generally year-round, though calmer conditions are often found in the summer. Its accessibility and rich ecosystem make it an excellent choice for beginner divers and freedivers seeking a rewarding underwater experience.
