This dive site, known as The Waters SCUBA park, is located in Fairbanks, Alaska, within a dredged-out quarry. It's a unique inland dive spot featuring artificial attractions such as a submerged plane, bus, and a scuttled boat, which divers can explore and navigate around. The park provides a controlled environment, making it an excellent location for dive training and skill development.
As a non-stocked quarry, the site does not boast a rich diversity of fish species. However, various bird species are frequently observed around the pond's surface, though they are not typically seen underwater. The underwater environment consists mainly of the quarry's rock and sediment floor, with limited aquatic vegetation due to its artificial nature and cold Alaskan waters.
The Scuba Park offers year-round diving opportunities, including unique ice dives during the winter months, which attract advanced divers seeking specialized training. For general diving, summer provides milder surface conditions. Its shallow depths make it ideal for beginner divers and freedivers. Divers should be prepared for cold water temperatures typical of Alaska and consider dry suit diving for comfort and safety.
