About this dive site

This dive site, Salt Springs, is a popular natural spring located within the Ocala National Forest. It's renowned for its shallow, slightly salty pool fed by multiple vents, maintaining a constant 74°F (23°C) temperature. Underwater navigation is straightforward due to its limited depth and clear water, allowing visitors to easily explore the sandy bottom and areas around the vents. There's no complex history or wreck to navigate, simply a natural spring environment.

The spring is home to several species of fish that thrive in its unique brackish environment, along with noticeable populations of blue crabs. While not a coral reef, the bottom features sandy areas and natural rock formations around the spring vents where these animals can be observed.

The best time to visit Salt Springs is year-round due to its constant water temperature. It's particularly popular during warmer months for cooling off. For snorkelers and freedivers, its calm, clear waters offer an excellent, safe environment for observing aquatic life. Scuba divers will find it an ideal spot for practicing skills in shallow water or for a leisurely, easy dive.
