This dive site, Flag Pole Little St James, is a shallow, beginner-friendly coral reef located on the northwest side of Little St James. Its manageable maximum depth of 11 meters and average depth of 5 meters, coupled with generally calm conditions, make it an excellent spot for new divers to gain confidence, practice skills, and explore a vibrant underwater ecosystem.
The reef serves as an ideal nursery, teeming with diverse juvenile fish species, providing ample small subjects for macro photography. Divers can frequently encounter green sea turtles, and there are occasional sightings of barracuda and stingrays amidst a rich variety of tropical reef fish, including snapper, parrotfish, and angelfish.
This site is enjoyable year-round, with generally good conditions. It is particularly recommended for introductory dives, snorkeling, and freediving due to its shallow nature and abundant marine life. Its clear waters also make it suitable for wide-angle photography of the reef landscape and its larger inhabitants like turtles, and for exploring the intricate details of the reef's smaller life.
