This dive site, Koh Rong Nang, is a vibrant reef located off a small island in Thailand. Divers can navigate by considering the currents: diving the west side during flood currents and the east side during ebb currents. The site features a gentle slope descending from the island down to a flat seabed at approximately 18 meters, creating an interesting topographical transition.
The marine life at Koh Rong Nang is diverse, frequently showcasing a variety of reef fish and numerous nudibranchs, particularly around the 18m and 21m rock formations. The occasional presence of majestic whale sharks adds an exciting element for big animal encounters, making it a potentially spectacular dive.
The site's highlights include both macro life and the chance for rare encounters with large pelagics like whale sharks. With a maximum depth of 17 meters and an average depth of 8 meters, it is suitable for various levels of divers and also offers good opportunities for freedivers and snorkelers, especially in the shallower sections. Divers should be aware of the variable currents and plan their dives accordingly (west for flood, east for ebb).
