This dive site, the Hardeep Wreck, also known as SS Suddhadib, is the most renowned wreck dive in Samaesarn, Thailand. This historic steam cargo ship met its fate on June 1, 1945, during WWII, when it was bombed and subsequently sank. The wreck now rests on its starboard side at a maximum depth of 27 meters, offering divers a fascinating underwater exploration of its structure and compartments.
The Hardeep Wreck is a vibrant artificial reef teeming with diverse marine life. Divers can frequently encounter graceful marble rays, intricate nudibranchs, and majestic turtles. The wreck is also home to various fish species including angelfish, pufferfish, porcupinefish, and scorpionfish, all adding to the site's rich biodiversity.
The best time to visit the Hardeep Wreck for optimal conditions is typically during Thailand's dry season, from November to April, when visibility is generally at its peak. While the maximum depth of 26 meters makes it suitable for intermediate divers, its average depth of 13 meters allows for extended bottom times. Freedivers with experience can also enjoy exploring the shallower parts of the wreck, though caution is advised due to potential entanglement hazards inherent with wreck diving.
