About this dive site

Tiefenau Brücke Worblaufen, also known as Aare Worblaufen, offers a unique freshwater diving experience immediately after the Tiefenau Bridge in Worblaufen, Switzerland, remarkably close to the city of Bern. Entry is convenient from the Kiesstrand (gravel beach) below the Pakplatz.

Divers can explore the riverbed and bridge structures, enjoying unlimited circling in the river. The site has a maximum depth of 4-5 meters, making navigation straightforward. You can drift with the gentle current, returning to the entry point, or for a more exhilarating experience, dive upstream in the countercurrent along the left bank. Once in the upper section, prepare for a "rollercoaster" ride: navigate through the center with the river flow, and when the current weakens, turn left to repeat the experience on the opposite side.

The site is teeming with diverse freshwater fish, especially active after dusk. Expect to encounter grayling, barbel, perch, whitefish, trout, pike, burbot, gudgeon, bullhead, and sculpin. The best time to visit is during the winter months, specifically after dark, when visibility often improves and fish activity is high. This spot is particularly well-suited for beginners and freedivers due to its shallow depth. Divers should be prepared for cold water conditions typical of Swiss river diving and be aware that current strengths can vary depending on the river's runoff.
