Dorfbach / Schulhaus, located in Steckborn, Switzerland, is a renowned and vibrant dive site, particularly suitable for beginners due to its shallow maximum depth and calm conditions. Divers can expect a rewarding experience observing a diverse array of freshwater species. The site is teeming with an abundance of perch (Egli), crayfish, impressive carp, elusive catfish, formidable pike, and pikeperch, making it a very "fishy" dive. You might even spot unusual backward-swimming crabs. It's notably recognized as a birthplace for perch, indicating a vibrant ecosystem.
A platform at approximately 5 meters below the surface offers an ideal space for practice and exercises. On the right side from the entrance, three fish traps serve as permanent retreats for fish and are designated as no-dive zones to preserve marine life. Diving into specific areas (scions) and near other areas (sprigs) is prohibited between April 15th and May 15th.
Parking is available on a gravel lot adjacent to the site, with fees applying outside of scheduled classes. A toilet block is conveniently located nearby. Bottle fillings are available on-site through Divecorner personnel, enhancing convenience. While fish use the traps throughout the year, the warmer months, typically spring through autumn, might offer the most comfortable diving conditions and potentially higher activity levels. This site is also ideal for both snorkelers and freedivers given its shallow profile and rich marine life.
