This dive site features the Wrack Jura, one of the most beautiful freshwater wrecks and one of the oldest still existing paddlewheel steamers in the world. Resting at a maximum depth of 36 meters with an average depth of 18 meters, the Jura sank in 1864 after a ship collision, offering a fascinating historical journey. Divers can explore its well-preserved structure and marvel at its unique paddlewheel design.
Lake Constance is home to various freshwater fish species. Divers can commonly spot perch and pike swimming around the wreck, adding a touch of natural life to the historical exploration. While not a location for large pelagic encounters, the resident fish populations provide an authentic lake diving experience.
The best time to visit for diving is generally during the warmer months, though deep lake diving often entails cold water temperatures year-round, requiring appropriate dry suits and thermal protection. Good buoyancy control is essential for exploring the delicate wreck and avoiding stirring up sediment. The site is not suitable for snorkeling due to its depth, and only advanced freedivers would consider the depth, though it's primarily a scuba destination.
