Beckenried, Rütenen is a freshwater dive site located in Rütenen Park, Switzerland, offering a unique experience in Lake Lucerne. The park provides excellent amenities for divers and non-divers alike, including swimming and barbecue areas, picnic spots, restrooms, and a snack stand that operates in good weather. Parking is available but requires payment. Entry to the dive site is easily accessible from shore, specifically near a beautiful sculpture, and divers should proceed to the right after entering.
Divers must be aware of a significant section of the formerly beautiful underwater wall that is currently closed due to landslide and rockfall risks. This restricted zone is clearly marked underwater with warning signs and safety lines, ensuring diver safety. Despite the wall being inaccessible, the site still offers accessible entry for training or shallower exploration, particularly for freedivers and snorkelers who can enjoy the clarity of the lake's upper layers.
Descending to depths of approximately 11-18 meters, divers will discover a Förderband (conveyor belt). Further south, several submerged tree stumps create varied underwater landscapes. Marine life commonly encountered includes freshwater fish such as perch, pike, trout, and eels, which navigate the lake's aquatic vegetation. In summer, abundant seagrass meadows thrive, while spring brings sightings of spawning Eurasian otters and frogs. Divers should be prepared for cold water conditions typical of Swiss lakes and be mindful of occasional current changes. The best time to visit is during good weather when the park amenities are fully operational.
