This dive site presents a fascinating wreck dive located off Utö, Sweden. The wreck of the Simpson, an old motorboat that grounded in 1936 while transporting ballast from a nearby mine, rests at a depth of approximately 7 meters with its stern resting on top of an older shipwreck, the Pantari, which lies about 24 meters deeper. The Simpson is roughly 25 meters long, 5 meters high and 7 meters wide, and was carrying a substantial cargo including 7 tons of koksslagg (slag), 65 tons of makadam (aggregate) stone, and 1 ton of miscellaneous goods. This creates several interesting exploration possibilities for divers. Nearby, the wreck of Pantari, sunk in 1924 due to grounding at Slottgrynnan in Nämndöfjärden, provides an additional layer of history and potential for discovery. The area offers a rewarding dive experience with generally good visibility, multiple levels suitable for varying skill levels, and the chance to spot marine life such as small sea needles, sjustrålig smörbult (a type of nudibranch), torsk (codfish) and Östersjöräkor (Baltic crabs). The site provides a great opportunity for both experienced and less experienced divers.
