This dive site features the Margareta af Vätö, a two-masted brig that met its end in December 1898 on its journey back to Stockholm. The wreck lies with its stern nestled against the rocks where it briefly drifted before sinking, making it a relatively easy wreck to locate and explore. The vessel remains remarkably intact in many sections, offering a fascinating glimpse into maritime history and providing shelter for various marine species.
Underwater, divers can expect to encounter numerous perch sheltering within the wreck's structure. It's also very common to observe jellyfish, clams, and other small fish species around the site. On a few occasions, seals have also been spotted, adding an exciting, albeit rare, encounter to the dive experience.
The best time to visit this dive site is typically during the warmer summer months for more comfortable water temperatures, though cold water diving techniques are often required in Sweden. Its shallow average depth of 5 meters and maximum depth of 11 meters make it exceptionally suitable for both beginner scuba divers looking for an accessible wreck experience and freedivers seeking an interesting site for breath-hold dives.
