This dive site is the wreck of the Reggio Messina, a 122m long ferry that sank in 1991 and now serves as an artificial reef. The wreck lies on a sandy bottom at 35 meters, broken into three large sections. Divers should plan their descent to explore the superior structure given the wreck's depth. Navigation requires careful attention to the wreck's layout and potential for disorientation.
The marine life surrounding and within the wreck is diverse. Outside, divers can spot snappers, damselfish, and sargos. Inside the wreck's decaying structure, lobsters, octopus, and conger eels find refuge. The surrounding sandy bottom also supports various smaller species.
The best time to visit is likely during the warmer months (May-October) when water temperatures are more comfortable and visibility is generally better. Divers should be aware of potential currents and exercise caution when exploring the wreck's interior. This site is not suitable for beginners due to depth and wreck penetration.
