This dive site features the wreck of a large Dutch river barge, the 'Ocean Diver', which is 23 meters long and 5 meters wide. It rests at a maximum depth of 26 meters, with an average depth around 13 meters, nestled between sandy seafloor and posidonia meadows. Located approximately 1250 meters off Son Bou beach, this wreck serves as a popular underwater landmark, offering a distinct structure to explore amidst the open seabed.
The wreck is teeming with marine life, making it a vibrant habitat. Divers can expect to encounter a variety of species including colorful flabellines and cratenas, which are types of nudibranchs, alongside larger fish like groupers, corvine, moray eels, and impressive large scorpion fish. The surrounding posidonia seagrass further contributes to the biodiversity, providing shelter and food for numerous smaller creatures.
The best time to visit this dive site is generally during the warmer months, typically from late spring to early autumn, when water temperatures are more comfortable and visibility is often at its best. Divers should be comfortable with wreck diving fundamentals and navigating to depths of 26 meters. Freedivers with sufficient breath-hold capabilities can also enjoy exploring the upper parts of the wreck, observing the abundant marine life.
