This dive site, Montiell/Conger Reef, is a relatively easy and accessible dive located near a dive center in Spain. The coffee bean-shaped rock formation is surrounded by sand, making navigation straightforward. Its shallow maximum depth and sheltered position make it ideal for beginners and those seeking a relaxed dive. A torch is recommended to explore the nooks and crannies of the reef.
The reef is teeming with diverse marine life. Divers can expect to encounter a variety of species, including scorpionfish, moray eels, conger eels, starfish, octopus, sepia, seahorses, nudibranchs, shrimps, lobsters, groupers, bream, barracuda, wrasse, and snake eels. The abundance and variety of smaller creatures make it a great spot for macro photography.
The best time to visit is likely during the warmer months (spring and summer) when visibility is typically better and the water temperature is more comfortable. However, year-round diving is possible. For freedivers, the shallow, sheltered nature of the site provides an ideal environment. Divers should remember that while the site is generally sheltered, unpredictable currents can sometimes occur, so maintaining situational awareness is essential.
