Isla Maria Claudia, also known as Mª Claudia, is a charming dive site located near Portichol beach, specifically on a small islet. It offers a rewarding circular dive around the island, providing a diverse underwater experience with varied landscapes and reliefs. Divers typically begin with a gentle descent down a cape, following the wall and reaching a depth of 14 meters, largely maintaining a consistent depth for relaxed exploration. Towards the southernmost side, the route descends slightly further to 18 meters, leading into an interesting canyon structure characterized by numerous holes and crevices. The maximum depth reached at this site is 20 meters.
A notable feature on the west face is a chimney-shaped tube, extending from approximately 11 meters to 6 meters below the surface, where sunlight filters through, creating beautiful backlights. The east orientation of Mª Claudia is particularly noteworthy for its upholstery. The site is teeming with marine life, especially within the protective holes and along the channel. Divers can expect to encounter Corvinas, Morays, Octopus, impressive Conger eels, and Lobsters, making it a rewarding spot for observing concealed fauna. Given its calm conditions and shallow to moderate depths, Isla Maria Claudia is highly recommended for beginner divers and freedivers seeking an accessible and enjoyable underwater experience. The best time to visit would typically be during the warmer, calmer months of the Mediterranean to ensure optimal visibility and comfort.
