This dive site features the wooden fishing boat "Cordero González," a 28-meter long vessel built in 1961 that tragically sank in 1975 after colliding with another fishing boat, the "Playa de Aldán," off the beautiful island of Ons. The wreck lies at a maximum depth of 21 meters, with an average depth around 10 meters, making it accessible to a wide range of divers. Divers can explore well-preserved elements such as the rudder, telegraph, batteries, boilers, chimneys, and even some wine bottles, providing a fascinating glimpse into its past.
The "Cordero González" wreck has become an artificial reef, teeming with marine life. Among the structural remains, divers can encounter numerous pouts, many large conger eels, and various pintos and maragotas actively swimming around and within the shipwreck. The diverse fish population makes for an engaging underwater encounter.
The best time to visit this dive site for optimal conditions is generally during the warmer months, from late spring to early autumn, when water temperatures are milder and visibility tends to be better. Its accessible depth profile makes it excellent for both scuba divers of all levels and freedivers looking to explore a historical wreck and its vibrant ecosystem. Always check local weather and sea conditions before planning your dive.
