This dive site, locally known as "Barco del Arroz", presents a fascinating opportunity to explore the wreck of the steamship Delfín off the coast of Torrox. The vessel sank in 1937 during the Spanish Civil War and lies approximately 80 meters long on the seabed. Originally named ‘Sociedad Anónima Navegación e Industria’, it was later renamed ‘Delfín’ in 1907. Loaded with flour, oil, and cod at the time of its sinking, the ship met its end after being unsuccessfully bombed by German planes on January 30th, followed by a second attack the next day when it was still afloat. The decisive blow came on the night of January 31st, when Italian submarine ‘Ciro Menotti’, commanded by Lieutenant Victor Moccagatta, delivered two torpedoes, ultimately sinking the Delfín. Despite being heavily impacted, the structure of the steamer remains remarkably well-preserved and is a popular dive site for experienced divers. Visibility at this location can be excellent, offering a chance to observe the remnants of this historic vessel.
