This dive site, Baie Lazare, is a picturesque lagoon partly protected by a barrier reef on Mahé, Seychelles. Known as one of Mahé's finest beaches, it offers an excellent and easily accessible spot for exploring the vibrant shallow waters. The site primarily consists of a shallow lagoon and the outer face of the reef, providing diverse environments for marine life. Navigation is straightforward given the shallow depths and relatively calm conditions, making it perfect for relaxed exploration.
Divers and snorkelers can expect to encounter a rich variety of marine life. Notably, several species of angelfish are commonly sighted, adding splashes of color to the reef. The impressive shoals of green humphead parrotfish are a highlight, gracefully moving through the coral gardens. Beyond these, a multitude of other reef fish and healthy coral formations can be observed, thriving within the protected environment of the bay.
Baie Lazare is an ideal destination for snorkeling and beginner diving, especially during the calmer periods of the year. While good year-round, the months from May to September typically offer the calmest seas and best visibility, enhancing the overall experience. Its shallow nature also makes it highly suitable for freedivers seeking beautiful underwater scenery without extensive depth. Tips include bringing a camera for wide-angle shots of the reef landscape and macro lenses for the smaller, intricate reef inhabitants.
