This dive site, Ras Gomaa, is a highly challenging advanced dive located in the Saudi Arabian Red Sea, connecting the renowned Woodhouse and Jackson reefs. It is celebrated for its pristine, untouched reef bank and magnificent coral reefs that grow in a wild, untamed style. Due to its demanding nature, characterized by strong and unpredictable currents, it can only be safely dived during optimal weather conditions with minimal wind, making precise current estimation difficult.
Divers at Ras Gomaa can expect to encounter a vibrant array of marine life, including frequently spotted turtles and various species of sharks. The site's strong currents attract a diverse population of pelagic fish, ensuring a dynamic and rich ecosystem. The healthy coral formations provide a habitat for numerous smaller reef fish and invertebrates, contributing to a thriving underwater world.
The best time to visit Ras Gomaa is exclusively during periods of good weather with very little wind, as currents are notoriously difficult to predict and can be very strong. This site is strictly for advanced divers with significant experience in drift diving and handling challenging conditions. It is not suitable for snorkeling or freediving due to its inherent risks, depth profile, and the unpredictable nature of the currents.
