This dive site, known as Мраморный карьер or Marble Quarry, is an artificial freshwater site located in the Russian Federation. It offers a unique diving experience within a former marble quarry, from which stones for many St. Petersburg palaces were sourced. Divers can explore interesting stone walls and navigate through a range of environments, from open water areas suitable for basic training to challenging full cave systems for advanced divers.
The dive site is characterized by poor flora and fauna due to its quarry nature. While specific marine animal species are not highlighted, divers can expect to find minimal aquatic life within the fresh waters. The primary interest lies in the geological formations and underwater structures rather than vibrant marine ecosystems.
The Marble Quarry is suitable for year-round diving, with particular highlights for those interested in cave exploration or unique underwater landscapes. It's an excellent location for diver training, offering controlled environments. Freedivers will also find the varied depths suitable for practice. Divers should be prepared for cold freshwater conditions and ensure proper certification for any cave penetration.
