About this dive site

This dive site, Cap Lahoussaye, is a unique volcanic rock cape located south of St Paul Bay in Réunion, distinguishing itself as the only snorkeling spot on the island not situated within a shallow lagoon. It forms a large sheltered area, making it a relatively calm and accessible location. Underwater, the site features dramatic rocky ridges and drop-offs, creating an interesting and varied topography for divers to explore.

The marine environment at Cap Lahoussaye is vibrant and diverse. The rocky landscapes are covered with extensive hard coral formations, providing a rich habitat. This ecosystem supports a variety of reef fish species, including some that are rarely encountered in the island's shallower lagoons. The site is also known for attracting visiting sea turtles, offering opportunities for memorable encounters with larger marine life.

As a sheltered location with a maximum depth of 18 meters and an average depth of 9 meters, Cap Lahoussaye is exceptionally well-suited for both snorkeling and freediving, in addition to scuba diving. While specific best times to visit are not provided, Réunion generally offers good diving conditions year-round. Divers and snorkelers can expect a unique experience compared to typical lagoon diving, with diverse fish and the chance to spot turtles.
