Baía da Flandres, also known as Flandres, is a tranquil and easy dive site located in Portugal. While one source places it off the coast of Peniche, another specifies Berlengas Island. This site is ideal for beginners and offers a relaxed diving experience, suitable for year-round diving, with summer providing warmer waters and potentially better visibility. Divers begin their exploration from a shallow sandy bottom, where Streaked gurnards can be found. The route often includes a small cavern, sometimes inhabited by forkbeards, and the remnants of a small wreck, identified as the English shipwreck Camrose, which is frequently visited by octopus. The dive continues around the distinctive 'Cavalete Rock' before returning to the bay.
The site boasts abundant marine life, including various fish species such as red/brown scorpion fish, schools of sea breams, and cow breams. Sea-urchins are also commonly found. Divers should exercise caution around scorpion fish due to their venomous spines and sea-urchins due to their sharp needles. Its low depth makes it suitable for long-duration dives and is also highly recommended for snorkeling and freediving.
