This dive site, known as 2 Ancoras, is characterized by an impressive wall dive with a reef re-entry, making it an engaging site for divers. The most striking feature are the two large admiralty-style anchors resting on the reef, providing a unique landmark and focal point for navigation. Divers typically explore the wall, which descends to a sandy bottom at 22 meters, while the reef top sits at 17 meters, offering varied depth profiles within the same dive.
The marine life here is abundant and diverse, commonly featuring lobsters, various crabs, and elusive conger eels. Octopuses are frequently sighted, along with delicate nudibranchs, vibrant anemones, and beautiful gorgonians. Divers can also spot sea cucumbers and schools of sea bream, adding to the rich biodiversity of the site.
The best time to visit 2 Ancoras, typical for the Algarve region, is during the warmer months from late spring to early autumn for optimal conditions and warmer water temperatures, though diving is possible year-round. This site is excellent for both wide-angle photography focusing on the anchors and wall, as well as macro photography due to the plentiful small creatures. Its varied depths and features make it suitable for divers of all levels, and it is also a good spot for freedivers and snorkelers on its shallower reef sections.
