This dive site, known as Koparki (excavators) within the Via Sport Diving Marina, is a unique inland diving destination located in a former dolomite quarry, locally referred to as 'Gródek'. Situated near Jaworzno, Poland, it offers an intriguing underwater landscape featuring two large flooded mining excavators, a submerged power station, and a shipwreck. Divers can navigate through these historical industrial relics, which provide a fascinating glimpse into the quarry's past, now transformed into an aquatic playground for divers.
As an inland freshwater quarry, the marine life here is characteristic of Polish lakes and reservoirs. Divers might encounter various freshwater fish species such as perch, pike, and roach, along with crayfish and other aquatic invertebrates. Submerged vegetation typical of such environments will also be present, providing shelter and sustenance for the local fauna.
The site is generally accessible year-round, with conditions varying seasonally. Summer offers warmer water temperatures, while cooler months might provide better visibility. It is particularly well-suited for beginner and intermediate divers due to its manageable depth and mild currents. Freedivers will also find the 15-meter maximum depth ideal for practice and exploration, with the submerged structures offering engaging targets for breath-hold dives.
