About this dive site

This dive site, The Larena, is a well-preserved Japanese hospital ship wreck that sank in 1945. Lying at an estimated depth of 30-35 meters, though the maximum accessible depth is 28 meters, the wreck offers a fascinating historical journey underwater. Located near Larena pier, divers navigate the structure of the ship, exploring its compartments and outer hull.

Despite strong currents hindering extensive coral growth, a small variety of corals has managed to establish itself on the ship's structure. These corals, in turn, provide habitat for a modest population of inhabiting reef fish, offering glimpses of marine life amidst the historical artifact.

The Larena wreck is best visited when currents are milder, though it is often subject to strong currents and poor visibility, making it a dive for experienced individuals. Advanced divers should be prepared for challenging conditions. Due to the depth and strong currents, this site is not suitable for snorkeling or general freediving.
