This dive site, Poblacion District 1, holds the distinction of being the first Marine Sanctuary established in Dauin. It is an easily accessible shore dive, allowing divers to explore a vibrant coral reef system that flourishes just a short swim from the beach. As a protected sanctuary, it emphasizes conservation and provides a safe environment for marine life to thrive, contributing to Dauin's reputation as a prime diving destination. Navigation is generally straightforward, following the reef slope from the shore.
The site is teeming with marine biodiversity, prominently featuring resident green sea turtles and hawksbill turtles, which are a common and beloved sight. Divers can also expect to encounter schools of yellowfin barracudas, various species of moray eels hiding among the corals, colorful damselfish flitting about, and well-camouflaged frogfish patiently waiting for prey. The healthy coral reef system supports a good amount of other reef fish, showcasing the rich ecosystem of Dauin.
Poblacion District 1 is suitable for diving year-round, though the dry season from October to May often offers the calmest conditions and best visibility, enhancing the overall dive experience. Its shallow average depth and mild currents make it an excellent spot for beginner divers, snorkelers, and freedivers alike. Photographers will appreciate the opportunities for both wide-angle shots of the graceful turtles and macro subjects like frogfish and eels.
