This dive site, Pescador North, is renowned as one of Cebu's most vibrant and colorful underwater locations, forming part of the famous Pescador Island. Divers navigate a spectacular reef slope and wall, leading to an exciting main feature: a large cavern known as 'The Cathedral' or 'Pescador Cave'. This cave offers a unique vertical swim-through from inside, allowing divers to ascend towards the surface with natural light streaming in. The site does not have a specific historical story beyond its natural formation and discovery as a prime diving spot.
The site boasts a rich biodiversity, with extensive hard and soft coral gardens blanketing the reef. Divers can expect to encounter an array of marine life including the camouflaged frogfish, schools of graceful lionfish, sleek barracudas, and fast-swimming tuna. Bottom dwellers such as snappers, elusive octopuses, various moray eels, and snake-eels are also common. The macro life is equally impressive, with numerous species of nudibranchs and shrimp contributing to the site's appeal.
The best time to visit Pescador North is typically during the dry season from November to May when conditions are most stable, offering optimal visibility and calm waters. Highlights include exploring the dramatic cave and its vertical ascent, as well as observing the incredible diversity of both large and small marine creatures. For freedivers, the manageable depth and captivating topography, especially the cave entrance, make it an excellent spot for breath-hold diving. Scuba divers should possess good buoyancy control, particularly when entering or exiting the swim-through.
