This dive site, Kan Oran Reef, translates to 'from the person' in the local Visayan dialect, offering a gentle wall experience slightly north of a significant marine sanctuary. Divers can easily navigate along its gradual descent, exploring numerous overhangs and ledges that create intriguing swim-throughs and sheltered spots, ideal for new divers.
The reef boasts an abundant, gentle explosion of colorful soft and hard coral gardens. Macro enthusiasts will delight in observing nudibranchs, sailfin gobies, razor shrimp, moray eels, and pipefish within the corals and sponges. Larger residents include spotted groupers, midnight snappers, various surgeonfish, and big nose unicornfish.
The best time to visit Kan Oran Reef, like much of the Philippines, is during the dry season from November to May for optimal visibility and calm conditions. Its accessible depths and features make it highly suitable for both snorkeling and freediving, offering excellent opportunities for underwater photography, particularly macro subjects. This site is especially beginner-friendly.
