This dive site, Gunter's Wall, is named after the German owner of a local dive shop in Southern Leyte. It forms a beautiful reef wall extension that heads south, beginning at Adrien's Cove. Divers can explore the vibrant wall, which typically has an average depth of 12 meters but drops down to a maximum of 24 meters, making it suitable for a range of experience levels. Navigation is straightforward, following the wall structure.
The wall is dominated by large gorgonian corals, providing a stunning backdrop for a rich array of marine life. Schooling fusiliers and pyramid butterflyfish are commonly seen, alongside colorful parrotfish and the distinctive titan triggerfish. The site is also home to anthias and, notably, the often-sought-after ornate ghost pipefish, indicating good macro opportunities.
While specific seasonal highlights are not mentioned, Southern Leyte generally offers excellent diving conditions year-round, with peak visibility typically outside of typhoon season. The shallower sections of the wall and reef top make it suitable for both snorkelers and freedivers, while scuba divers can enjoy the full extent of the wall. Divers should be mindful of potentially variable currents, which are common on reef walls.
