This dive site, Delsan Wreck, is a jewel within the remote Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park in the Philippines, celebrated as a global top 50 dive destination. The site features a captivating topography with a vibrant reef top at 5 meters gently sloping to the edge of a dramatic wall, which drops to 23 meters before a deeper crevasse provides refuge from the notorious "raging current." While named a wreck, its primary allure lies in the vibrant ecosystem around the deep structure and wall rather than a prominent wreck structure itself.
Delsan Wreck is renowned for its spectacular pelagic show. Divers regularly encounter scalloped hammerhead sharks, grey reef sharks, and whitetip sharks. Massive schools of chevron and Forrester’s barracuda are a common sight, as are impressive 1.5 to 2-meter dogtooth tuna patrolling the deeper waters. The reef environment also supports a rich diversity of smaller reef fish and healthy coral formations along its slopes and wall.
The best time to experience Delsan Wreck is during Tubbataha's dive season, typically from March to June, when sea conditions are optimal for liveaboard trips. This site is predominantly for advanced divers due to the significant depths and strong, often unpredictable currents. It offers unparalleled wide-angle photography opportunities for its large marine life. Due to the challenging conditions and depths, it is generally not recommended for snorkeling or casual freediving.
