This dive site, Hambåra Torpedobatteri, is situated within the historic bay of a fortress in Norway, offering a unique blend of natural beauty and historical intrigue. Divers can easily access the water via a safe entry point next to a wooden building. The seabed gently slopes down to depths exceeding 50 meters, providing ample space for exploration, though the primary dive area is shallower.
The marine environment here is vibrant and diverse, showcasing a variety of species characteristic of Norwegian waters. Divers can encounter impressive king crabs, various other crabs, elusive monkfish, colorful wrasse, delicate nudibranchs, and commercially valuable scallops, making it an excellent spot for observing cold-water marine life.
While the dive site is suitable for all levels, divers should be aware that currents are possible outside the bay during tidal movements. Planning dives around slack tide is advisable, especially for less experienced divers. The site is also suitable for snorkelers and freedivers, particularly within the calmer bay area, offering excellent opportunities to observe the rich shallow-water ecosystem.
