This dive site, RiF010, holds the distinction of being the world's inaugural urban surfing pool, nestled within the inland harbors of Rotterdam. Beyond its primary function of generating waves for surfing, it serves as a unique facility for diving lessons, conducted in collaboration with Het Duikhuis. As a purpose-built, man-made environment, it offers a highly controlled and predictable setting for divers to learn, practice, and refine their skills without the variables of open water.
Being an artificial, filtered pool, RiF010 does not naturally host marine animals or plants. Divers will encounter a sterile underwater environment, which allows for complete focus on buoyancy control, equipment handling, and various dive skills without distractions from marine life observation.
The site is suitable for diving throughout the year. However, divers should be aware that the water is not heated, necessitating appropriate thermal protection, particularly outside of summer months. RiF010 is an excellent choice for beginner courses, refresher sessions, or specific skill practice for divers of all experience levels seeking a convenient and safe confined water environment.
