This dive site, Oude Kademuur van Zierikzee, explores the historical remains of an old quay wall located between the Zeelandbrug and the harbour de Val, near the second pillar. The wall itself runs from about 3 meters at low tide down to approximately 20 meters, though the maximum safe diving depth is noted as 15 meters. As it is not accessible from land, a boat is required to reach this site, where divers can navigate along the length of the ancient structure.
The site is particularly rich in smaller marine life, providing an excellent habitat for various crustaceans. Divers will frequently encounter abundant lobsters and crabs sheltering among the rocks and debris of the old quay. It is also a known spot for numerous nudibranch species, offering great opportunities for macro enthusiasts, alongside schools of fish that are often observed swimming around the structures.
The best time to visit this dive site would be during slack tide to minimize the impact of potentially strong and variable currents that are common in this region of the Netherlands. Due to the boat-only access and possible challenging conditions, it is recommended for divers with intermediate experience, or those accompanied by experienced local guides. While the depths are suitable for freediving, strong currents and boat traffic necessitate caution and may make it generally unsuitable without specific safety measures. Visibility can be variable, so divers should be prepared for typical Dutch conditions.
