This dive site, Den Osse Haven, is accessible via a 200-meter walk along the dike. Divers should navigate to the left side of the breakwater to avoid the main harbor. The initial section from the shore is shallow and sandy, gradually transitioning. Approximately 100 meters from the shore, the bottom drops steeply, particularly near the breakwater, offering a more dramatic underwater topography.
The site is teeming with small marine life, making it excellent for macro enthusiasts. Divers can observe various sea squirts, eel pout, and large pipefish. Black gobies are commonly found sheltering in empty oyster shells. The steeper sections closer to the pier provide a habitat for numerous sea squirts and sponges, contributing to a diverse micro-environment.
As a temperate water dive, cold water protection is essential year-round. The relatively shallow average depth of 5 meters and maximum depth of 11 meters make it suitable for both snorkeling and freediving, especially in the shallower sandy areas. Divers should be mindful of potential boat traffic within the haven area. This site is particularly rewarding for those interested in exploring the intricate details of temperate marine ecosystems.
