This dive site, Northern Rocky, is an exposed underwater plateau characterized by dramatic granite rock formations and a series of sloping rocky ridges. The marine environment at Northern Rocky boasts abundant hard and soft corals, alongside huge sea fans, creating a vibrant and diverse ecosystem. It is renowned as a pelagic hotspot, frequently visited by large schools of barracuda and trevally, various reef sharks, leopard sharks, and larger migratory species such as whale sharks and manta rays.

The best time to visit the Mergui Archipelago, including Northern Rocky, is generally from October to May, with peak pelagic sightings often occurring between November and February. Due to very strong currents and its challenging nature, this site is strictly recommended for experienced divers only. Freedivers and snorkelers will find the conditions difficult and potentially unsafe.
