This dive site, Roca Partida, is a dramatic, isolated rock pinnacle rising from the vast Pacific Ocean, approximately 70 miles west of Socorro Island. Accessible exclusively by liveaboard, this advanced dive is a thrilling experience as divers navigate around the sheer walls of the pinnacle. There is no specific recorded history of human habitation or events on this remote rock; rather, its story is told by the abundant marine life it attracts as a critical waypoint in the open ocean.
Roca Partida is renowned as a magnet for an incredible array of large marine life. Divers can expect to encounter giant Pacific manta rays, schooling hammerhead sharks, graceful humpback whales (seasonally), majestic whale sharks, playful dolphins, and various shark species including whitetips and Galapagos sharks. Large schools of tuna and jacks are also frequently observed circling the pinnacle, adding to the spectacle.
While specific peak times for all species vary, the liveaboard season for the Revillagigedo Archipelago generally runs from November to June. This site is strictly for advanced divers due to its remote location, potential strong currents, and exposure to open ocean conditions. Freedivers and snorkelers may find conditions challenging due to depth, currents, and remoteness, thus it is primarily recommended for experienced scuba divers.
