This dive site, known as Paseo del Cedral or Cedar Pass, is a beloved Cozumel destination, particularly favored by underwater photographers. It is characterized by its unique underwater landscape, which features numerous tight coves and crevices, providing excellent shelter for schools of fish. As a shallow dive with an average depth of approximately 9 meters and a maximum depth of 19 meters, it offers an accessible and enjoyable experience, especially for new divers.
Divers at Cedar Pass can anticipate a rich variety of marine life. Notable encounters include majestic spotted eagle rays, docile nurse sharks, graceful sea turtles, and various stingrays. The site is also home to moray eels and an abundance of colorful reef fish. A truly special highlight is the opportunity to spot the endemic Splendid toadfish, a unique species found exclusively in the waters of Cozumel.
The best time to visit Cedar Pass generally aligns with Cozumel's dry season (November to May) for optimal weather and calm seas, though diving is excellent year-round. Its shallow depth and interesting topography make it ideal for extended bottom times and exploring the nooks and crannies. For freedivers, the site's manageable depth and vibrant marine life offer a rewarding experience. Photographers will appreciate the natural lighting and numerous hiding spots for subjects.
