This dive site, Plage Gouéla, offers a serene alternative to its more famous neighbor, N’Gouja. It features a unique black sand beach leading to a reef flat at 3 meters, which then drops off to a maximum depth of 10 meters. The underwater navigation is straightforward, moving from the shallow reef flat to the vibrant reef drop-off, which is well-preserved and teeming with life.
Divers and snorkelers at Plage Gouéla can expect a rich display of marine biodiversity. Green sea turtles are a common sight, gracefully gliding through the waters. The reef itself hosts a variety of reef fish and healthy coral formations, indicating a thriving ecosystem despite its proximity to the shore.
While Plage Gouéla can be enjoyed year-round, divers should be aware that underwater visibility is sometimes poor. It is an excellent spot for both beginner divers and snorkelers due to its shallow depths and calm conditions. Freedivers will also appreciate the opportunity to interact with turtles in a relatively tranquil setting.
