This dive site, Petite Anse, is located at the southernmost beach in the Anses d’Arlet region of southern Martinique. While not as widely popular for snorkeling as some neighboring spots, it offers a tranquil and easily accessible underwater environment. With a maximum depth of 6 meters and an average depth of 3 meters, it’s an ideal location for beginners, training dives, and relaxed exploration of its gentle seagrass beds and small reef.
Beneath the surface, divers and snorkelers can discover a variety of marine life typical of Caribbean seagrass and reef ecosystems. Expect to see numerous small reef fish like parrotfish, wrasses, and damselfish, alongside various invertebrates such as crabs, shrimp, and anemones. The seagrass beds serve as important nurseries, often hosting juvenile fish and providing habitat for cryptic marine creatures, and occasionally small rays or sea turtles can be spotted grazing.
The best time to visit Martinique for diving is generally during the dry season, from December to May, when weather conditions are most stable, offering calm seas and good visibility. Petite Anse's shallow, calm waters make it perfect for leisurely dives, extensive snorkeling, and freediving practice. It's also an excellent spot for macro photography enthusiasts seeking to capture the intricate details of small marine life within the seagrass and coral patches.
