This dive site, the Amelie Wreck, is a famous shallow dive and snorkeling location nestled in Anse Turin, south of Saint-Pierre, Martinique. The remains of the wreck are scattered across a gray sandy bottom in several pieces, having been largely reclaimed by the ocean over time. This creates an easily navigable site for divers, transforming the historical vessel into a vibrant artificial reef.
The Amelie Wreck is teeming with marine life, serving as a dynamic habitat for a diversity of reef fish and various small critters. Corals have begun to establish themselves on the wreck fragments, further enhancing the ecosystem. Divers can occasionally spot larger marine animals such as graceful rays, sea turtles, and intriguing snake eels, adding to the site's biodiversity.
Being a tropical Caribbean site, the Amelie Wreck is suitable for diving and snorkeling year-round, generally offering mild conditions. Its maximum depth of 8 meters and average depth of 4 meters make it an exceptional spot for beginner divers, snorkelers, and freedivers alike. The site provides excellent opportunities for both wide-angle photography of the wreck and macro photography of the abundant small life.
