This dive site, Temengkuh, is nestled in a sheltered cove just a 7-minute boat ride south of Juara Bay on Tioman Island, Malaysia. Divers will explore a vibrant coral reef covering the bay, leading to intriguing rocky structures and rock walls. A unique feature is a second shallow coral reef transitioning into a freshwater boulder area. There is no mooring line, requiring careful boat handling.
The site boasts a rich array of marine life including colourful Parrotfish, Wrasse, Damsel, and the iconic Anemone Fish. Divers may also spot Triggerfish, the well-camouflaged Scorpion Fish, and graceful Angel Fish. Coral formations are diverse, featuring healthy Branching and Boulder corals, alongside beautiful Sea Fans. For macro enthusiasts, Nudibranchs are present, and lucky divers might encounter a Sea Snake.
The sheltered nature of Temengkuh makes it a great year-round option, though the best diving season typically aligns with Tioman Island's dry season from March to October for optimal visibility. Highlights include the varied topography, from coral gardens to rocky walls and unique freshwater boulder sections. For freedivers and snorkelers, the shallow, vibrant reefs offer an excellent experience. Divers should be mindful of potential wave surge in shallower areas.
