This dive site, Madrépore Manta Point, is located 13km off the coast of Madagascar, requiring a 40-minute boat ride. The dive itself is characterized by two distinct sections: a deeper area at 21 meters and a shallower area at 15 meters, separated by an intriguing field of garden eels. Navigation is straightforward, with a clear transition between the two depths. The site is best explored during an ebb tide to take advantage of the currents and visibility.
The marine life at Madrépore Manta Point is exceptionally diverse. Beyond the garden eels, divers can encounter a captivating array of species including stingrays, crocodile fish, various scorpionfish (leaf scorpionfish, stonefish, and regular scorpionfish), lionfish, and potentially more. The healthy coral formations contribute to the vibrant underwater landscape and provide shelter for countless smaller fish and invertebrates.
The best time to visit Madrépore Manta Point is likely during the warmer months (October-April), offering optimal visibility and favorable weather conditions. While the site is suitable for intermediate divers, those with experience managing moderate currents are preferred. Freediving is not advisable due to the depth and currents. Always remember to check the tide conditions before venturing out and maintain a safe distance from the marine life.
