This dive site, South Beach, is a popular snorkeling and diving spot located approximately 6 miles south of Aqaba, within the protected Aqaba Marine Park along Jordan's Red Sea coast. It features a shallow reef flat starting at 3 meters, leading to a spectacular reef drop-off that descends to 12 meters. While the coral has faced impacts from increased coastal tourism, the site remains a vibrant ecosystem offering easy navigation along the reef wall.
Divers and snorkelers can expect to encounter diverse marine life, including various fish species such as vibrant clownfish, elusive moray eels, and graceful surgeonfish. Shoals of glittering sea goldie are often seen inhabiting the reef flat and drop-off, contributing to the site's colorful display. Although coral health has declined in some areas, the fundamental reef structure continues to support a rich array of smaller invertebrates and reef-dwelling organisms.
South Beach is excellent for year-round visits, with consistently warm waters and generally good visibility typical of the Red Sea. Its shallow reef flat makes it particularly suitable for beginner divers and snorkelers, while the drop-off to 12 meters provides a pleasant experience for certified divers and freedivers alike. Due to its popularity, visiting during off-peak hours may offer a more serene experience, allowing for better enjoyment of the marine park's protected wonders.
