This dive site, known as Power Station in Aqaba, Jordan, offers a unique underwater experience accessible only by boat. The dive begins on a relatively flat plateau extending to approximately 16 meters, before descending into a dramatic wall that drops to around 40 meters. The wall then levels out before dropping again to around 60 meters, and then further down! This diverse topography makes it an exciting dive for all levels. There's no specific history or story behind the name 'Power Station' that is commonly known, it's likely named due to its proximity to a power station in the area.
The marine life at Power Station is rich and varied. Divers can expect to see a wide array of fish species, including reef fish common to the Red Sea. Vibrant coral formations add to the visual spectacle, and the deeper sections of the dive offer the chance to encounter larger pelagic species. The diverse coral types found are representative of the Red Sea's ecosystems.
The best time to visit is during the warmer months (April to October) when the water is clear and warm, and marine life is most active. Visibility is generally good. Experienced divers can explore the deeper sections of the wall, while less experienced divers can enjoy the shallower plateau. Strong currents are generally not an issue at this site but should be checked prior to diving.
