This dive site, Gorgon 1, is located in the Red Sea off the coast of Aqaba, Jordan. The dive starts at a large white gorgonian, which gives the site its name. From there, divers follow the reef towards two large pinnacles, eventually encountering what's reputed to be the largest cabbage coral in the Middle East. The route is relatively straightforward, making it accessible to divers of all experience levels.
The rich biodiversity of Gorgon 1 is its main draw. Divers can expect to see glassfish inhabiting the pinnacles, alongside hunting lionfish. Large moray eels and turtles are also common sightings, along with a variety of other reef fish and coral species.
The best time to visit Gorgon 1 is during the warmer months (April to October) when water temperatures are pleasant and visibility is typically at its best. The site is suitable for both scuba diving and freediving, but divers should be aware of potential mild currents. Remember to maintain a safe distance from marine life and practice responsible diving techniques.
