This dive site, known as the "Blue Cave" at Cape Maeda, Onna Village, Okinawa, is renowned for its enchanting blue light. This mystical phenomenon is created by sunlight reflecting off its pristine white sandy bottom. With an average depth of approximately 7 meters and a maximum of 14 meters, it is easily navigable and considered ideal for all levels of divers, including those embarking on their first "experience dive."
The Blue Cave hosts a vibrant and diverse array of marine life both inside and outside its cavern. Divers can expect to encounter various fish species, including sparrowhawks and butterflyfish, alongside fascinating invertebrates such as nudibranchs and crustaceans. Jellyfish are often seen drifting gracefully, and lucky visitors may even spot sea turtles actively feeding or resting within the area.
The Blue Cave is an active dive site year-round, though marine life activity peaks significantly in the warmer summer months. Its shallow average depth makes it exceptionally suitable for both snorkeling and freediving, offering an equally stunning experience from the surface. For scuba divers, the unique lighting provides an excellent wide-angle photography opportunity, making it a highly rewarding destination.
