This dive site, known as 1 Gochi Ohanabatake or 'Flower Garden site #1', is a special location within a National Park Marine Protected Area in Japan. Due to challenging anchoring conditions, it is exclusively a drift dive site. While its shallow areas (5-12m) can be safely enjoyed, divers must select calm sea conditions as strong currents are frequently encountered.
The site boasts a diverse array of marine life including snappers, groupers, scorpionfish, and schools of yellowtail snapper and yellowtail. Divers may also spot scampi and turtles. On rare occasions, larger pelagic species like sharks and rays make an appearance. For those with a keen eye for macro life, searching among the reef structures can reveal hidden gems such as longnose hawkfish and frogfish.
The best time to visit this site is during periods of calmer sea conditions, specifically when currents are not excessively strong, to ensure a safe and enjoyable drift dive. Divers should possess experience with drift diving and managing strong currents. Freedivers and snorkelers can also enjoy the shallower sections, provided they are mindful of the currents and choose appropriate conditions for their activity.
