This dive site, Punta del Nasuto, is a captivating underwater experience located just west of Marciana Marina, Elba Island, Italy. The dive begins near the headland, where a dramatic wall drops down into the azure waters of the Mediterranean Sea. Navigation is straightforward, following the wall as it descends. There is no known history associated with the dive site beyond its geological formation. The dive site is relatively easily accessed by boat from the nearby harbor.
The diverse marine life is what makes Punta del Nasuto a highlight. Octopuses, moray eels, and scorpion fish hide amongst the rocks, while groupers and conger eels patrol the deeper sections. Lobsters and gorgonians add color to the deeper parts of the wall, and there's always a chance of encountering larger pelagic fish passing by. The area exhibits a typical Mediterranean seabed with a variety of algae and invertebrates.
The best time to visit is during the warmer months (May to October) when the water is clearest and the marine life is most active. The calm waters of the summer months make this site ideally suited to freediving, but divers should still be mindful of potential currents. Divers should also be aware of the depth; proper planning is recommended for both freedivers and scuba divers. Good buoyancy control is key for safe navigation along the wall.
