About this dive site

This dive site, known as Cargo Armato, is the fascinating wreck of a former French ocean-going fishing vessel, mistakenly identified by its current name. Built in 1926, it was commandeered by the Germans in 1942 for conversion into a submarine destroyer. The wreck rests between 26 and 36 meters, with an impressive length of 64 meters. Divers can explore the well-preserved bow, which features a large slot offering easy access for penetration into its interior compartments.

The interior of the wreck provides an ideal habitat, particularly for large conger eels and numerous lobsters, making it a vibrant den for marine life. The structure itself is likely to attract various reef fish species typical of the Mediterranean, alongside other invertebrates that seek shelter and food within the sunken vessel.

The Cargo Armato wreck is best visited during the warmer months when sea conditions are typically calmer and visibility is at its best. Divers planning penetration should possess appropriate training and equipment due to the enclosed nature of the wreck. While primarily a scuba dive due to its depth and the nature of wreck exploration, strong freedivers could potentially visit the shallower parts of the wreck, though full exploration would require scuba gear.
